*"Hostages, letter to an artist from Coiba,1972 from: "Art and the law" published by West Publishing, 1982*

*

*mixed media from the series "Hostages, freedom fighters ,friends for life" shown at: "Landmark Center, Saint Paul, Minnesota, September-October 1982, The portrait above is of a young man, from "movimiento, noviembre 27" interned on the beautiful island of Coiba in 1972, The portrait is as the artist receiving his letter imagined him to look like after reading his heavily censored letter:
transl. "Dear friend: sorry for not having been able to write before, hope you are well, I have been here now for several month. I am well, they treating me real nice, the weather is balmy, humid, our diet is healthy we eat only fish, lost thirty pounds, Wednesdays we play soccer against teams from the "condenaos"*, some are really nice chaps. thursday and friday we play chess, i am getting real good and will enter championship. We are being re-educated and a I like my teacher. I lost an testicle in an soccer accident. I broke my fingers, stupid me in another accident on arrival. I am allowed one letter a month, no pictures. Say hello to..., I don't know how long I will be staying, but I am enjoying my stay here. Contrary to what you may hear, here everyone is treated with great respect.
Un abrazo, ..........."
*"condenados" mostly criminals, murderers; some of whom were promoted to "chaperons" of the "politicos" who were trusted to mingle with the rest of the population.
p.s. On a note of interest; Because of it's bad reputation, Coiba island was renamed after the dictatorship of Manuel Norriega to "Granito de Oro" /grain of gold/ a rather ironic name change considering as to what went on there in the early 70's. Presently it is a national park. The waters around the island are shark infested; I have been told that they multiplied ten fold due to so many prisoners being fed to them in the 70's. Those "lost" at sea were reported to their families as simply "desaparecidos" The title of so many ballads, songs and cumbias from that period.

Have a happy day,Sam & Emmy.

The murder rate stat is unsettling but what do you think the welfare ratio would be per person in the counties that vote for Broke Obama? This wasn't a racial election either, right?

OBITUARY
Born 1776, Died 2008

It does not hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning last November'sPresidential election:

Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29
Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million
McCain: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.
